Matsena Productions Nominated for National Dance Awards

We are over the moon to have been nominated for this year's 23rd National Dance Awards under the best independent company category. This nomination comes after a huge year for the company, with critically acclaimed performances across Sadler's Wells, DanceEast, Royal Welsh College's Richard Burton Theatre, Taliesin Arts Centre and more. NDCW toured Anthony Matsena's Codi, as well as the Brothers in Dance documentary which saw the honest and incredible story of our Co-artistic Directors broadcast across the UK via the BBC. The company opened a new production of DREAM with RWCMD where Anthony Matsena and Kel Matsena co-directed, as well as the brothers being made fellows of the college in honour of their contribution to its artistic output.

In total there were 387 companies, choreographers, performers and other creative artists nominated (up from 355 in 2021), from which the short-listed nominees included Matsena Productions. Congratulations to our whole team, all our collaborators and everyone who has supported us this past year.

The short-listed nominees are taken from nominations made by the members of the Dance section of the Critics’ Circle. The qualifying period for performances was between 1st January and 31st December 2022.

We would like to congratulate all the other nominees and look forward to seeing the outcome of the awards in due course.
